Feeding services offered address:

Delays in oral motor skills, sensory difficulties, oral motor difficulties, difficulties related to tethered oral tissues (TOTs), support of pre- and post-release of TOTs, breastfeeding concerns, bottle feeding concerns, poor food progression, limited food variety, delays in feeding/self-help skills, and other feeding difficulties and concerns.  See below for details.

Concerns we can support:

  • Difficulty Breast and/or Bottle Feeding

    Not able to take bottle, poor/shallow latch, clicking sounds, loss of fluid during feedings, poor intake, poor lip seal, loss of milk, on/off frequently, concerns with weight gain, frequent falling asleep/fatigue, arching/refusals/frustration by infant, coughing during/or after feeds, nipple pain, weak tongue, decreased transferring of milk, long nursing sessions

  • Concerns related to tethered oral tissues (TOTs)

    Tongue/lip tie concerns, concerns with movement of lip, tongue, and jaw, limited tongue coordination, inability or limited ability to extend, elevate, or laterally move the tongue, open mouth posture during wake and sleep periods, concerns with body tension, diagnosis of torticollis, and difficulty with lip seal or closure on breast, bottle, and feeding utensils

  • Poor food progression

    Difficulty progressing through food transitions, including purees/thick purees, mashed solids, and onto solids foods.

  • Need pre- and post-frenectomy care and treatment

  • Difficulty transitioning to solid foods from breast/bottle feeding

  • Difficulty with or transitioning to drinking from open cup and/or straw

  • Oral motor concerns with chewing and tongue movement

    Difficulty moving tongue to control food, immature chewing pattern

  • Pocketing of food

    Food remains in cheeks, high palate leaving food on roof of mouth, or child hold foods in mouth without swallowing

  • Oral aversion and hypersensitivity

    Gagging, vomiting, avoidance to oral input, refuses toothbrushing

  • Gagging, vomiting, choking episodes during and/or after feeding

  • Difficulty meeting age-appropriate milestones for feeding, drinking, and other self-help skills

  • Avoidance of touching and interacting with foods or becomes upset when messy

  • Aversion to getting hands and/or face messy

  • Food hesitancy (aka “picky eating”) that disrupts your child’s access to ideal nutrition and enjoyment of eating

  • Selective eating with preferred food items only

  • Poor or decreased interest in eating during scheduled mealtimes

  • Sensory difficulties that impact eating

    Overstuffing of mouth, poor tolerance of food smells

  • Food hesitancy related to previous negative experiences/trauma

  • Difficulty with safe and functional eating during meal times in the home and community

  • Children working towards accepting a special diet for medical/health reasons

  • Diagnosis of Feeding Disorder or Feeding Difficulty
